What Makes Gold Hypoallergenic?

When starting my small business having a product that I am passionate about and identify with was my ultimate goal. Having allergies, I looked for a high-quality, chic, and hypoallergenic product. When researching hypoallergenic jewelry and the properties in the metal that make people sensitive, I came across one big answer: GOLD!

For the next few weeks, we will explore why 18K and 24K gold is the best metal for people who have allergies to metels used in Jewellery.

Today lets focus on what 18K and 24K gold means and the properties that make up this luxurious metal.

Gold is measured in Karats, and the number of karats reflects the amount of pure gold in a given piece of Jewellery. Pure gold, often referred to as 24K is 99% gold while 18K gold is 75% pure gold, with the other 25% being made up of other alloys

Unlike pure Gold (24K), which is fairly soft and can be prone to bending and scratching, 18k gold is stronger due to the added alloy. This makes it more practical for rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets as it can withstand the rigor of everyday wear without losing its shape and luster.

18K Gold used in Jewellery like the pieces we sell at the House of Huxter are mixed with silver, palladium and nickel. Having these alloys making up only 25% of the jewelry metal makes the pieces a safe option for those with Sensitive skin.

Join us next week as we look at the other metal alloys that most reactions occur from and why!
